The Present - A new vision for the area
St Mary-le-Port has the potential to play a crucial role in Bristol's city centre once again.
Bristol City Council wants to see this neglected corner of Bristol redeveloped as a sustainable mixed-used quarter of the city. The new scheme will create a vibrant area that will once again attract people to this former commercial heart of Bristol.
The development will provide a vital link between the new Cabot Circus shopping centre, the Old City and Harbourside, together with Redcliffe and Temple Quarter over the river. It will also bring benefits to Bristol’s residents, businesses and visitors, creating jobs and new funds for improvements to the adjacent Castle Park.
Landowners Bristol City Council, Morley Fund Management and Strand Street Properties ran a competition to select the most appropriate developer for this important site. In March 2006, they chose local developer Deeley Freed Estates as their partner in creating a new vision for the area, a company with experience in delivering complex mixed use schemes in sensitive areas and excellent local knowledge.
Architect and past president of RIBA George Ferguson and conservation architect Richard Pedlar are working with masterplanners Aukett Fitzroy Robinson to develop an outstanding design and strong identity for this key city centre site.
